F-Unit Friday - MILW 103A
Author: refarkas

Sometimes you choose a slide from a box and take a quick but not careful look. Here is Milwaukee 103A (EMD FP7) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April 13, 1973. It took a few seconds to catch what was wrong. Her pilot is missing! (That and the ground is so contaminated it looks like and is black.). To make the image more interesting: The nose of a GM&O E7A and a sliver of the nose of an FM switcher are also visible.

Interesting photo. The fact that the number board lights are illuminated suggests that it's not just waiting for the scrapper to tow it away. But I wonder where the pilot and the grillework went.
Here's another photo, also from 1973, looks like it may have been repainted by then.

Sometimes you have to really analyze a photo to see all the elements of interest.
The GM&O E7A was in Amtrak service during the photo period.
Thanks for the very interesting posting.

This was the short-lived extension of the Abraham Lincoln to Milwaukee. Later the Prairie State also ran Milwaukee-Chicago-St Louis. The through-trains ended in October 1973.

Once again you've shared with us another unique photo! What's behind the F unit----a homemade sand car??
