Were the Western Pacific 2-8-8-2's ever used east of Portola? if so do any pictures exist substantiating this?

I have never seen any photographic evidence of it.  But that doesn't mean it didn't happen.  Typically the Mikados were the heavy freight power on the 5th sub east from Portola.

It's a bit surprising that they didn't run in and out of Runnamucca as Jungo Hill westbound is a pretty good
test for a steam powered freight.

Does the ETT give any clue about this question?

I have researched the WP 251 class for over 10 years and have never seen a photo of one working east of Portola.

If it did happen, I would think it would be a rare occurance.

Oroville and Portola had the turntables to spin these big engines.  There were big turntables for the 4-6-6-4s in Elko and some eastern terminals, but this was WP's coal territory.

I have seen accounts that they worked the High Line on occaision and may have worked down to Stockton.

Eastern Division Timetable #42 dated 5/30/1948 has no tonnage rating for the M-137-151 class on any of the 4 subdivisions.
Western Division Timetable #37 dated 6/6/1947 has tonnage ratings for the class on all 4 subdivisions.
