SD Saturday

On a beautiful Summer Sunday afternoon, Conrail's ENS-171 (light engines) is stopped next to the old CNJ station.

The crew has decided they want some coffee before heading to Allentown, Pennsylvania some 60 miles to the West.

So, EMD SD40's 6355 (ex-PC, exx-PRR), 6349 (ex-PC, exx-PRR), SD40-2 6505 and an SW1500 pose for the railfans.

The cool engineer also invited anyone who wanted to "come up" to do so, but quick. You can see the fans packing 6355's cab.

I will have lifelong memories of being invited to come up on locomotives or a cab on rear of a train. Even got many a ride. Sad those days are forever gone

There's no stopping for coffee for Conrail's TV-3M as it passes under the Eastern most signal bridge at MG interlocking. MG is about 2 miles West of Horseshoe Curve.

A 6,000 h.p. pair of Conrail EMD SD40's (6294 & 6278) are "helpers ahead" of the road power, a pair of EMD GP40-2's and a GE B36-7.

TV-3M will continue to grind uphill untill it reaches level ground again at Cresson, Pennsylvania.

Conrail EMD SD40 6262 heads up a PIES (Pittsburgh-Eastern Shore) on the ex-PRR mainline curving along the Susquehanna River.

The train is rolling off it's last miles to "famed" Enola yard some 15 minutes to the East.

Upon start up, Conrail inherited EMD SD40's from the Jersey Central. They were given to the Jersey Central by part owner B&O as there was no cash for the purchase of new power.

These units (3061-3069 ) came in B&O blue. The "Miss Liberty" logo was added and the B&O painted over.

Here's the first of the "new, old stock" SD40's, the 3061.

Nice set of photos. I got a kick out of your "NOS" description for CNJ 3061.
