Nostalgia & History > Few forties for FridayDate: 11/15/19 19:52 Few forties for Friday Author: jgilmore A sampling of SD40s from my travels:
1) CN/GTW pair on a NB rack train on the AA near Samaria, MI, in 1993. This train will take a right turn at Diann, MI, for the rest of its trip to Flat Rock. 2) WB CP 500-series train rolls past State Line Tower near Chicago, early '90s. 3) CP (D&H) train #557 is rolling through upstate NY on the Southern Tier line near Waverly in 1994. . Date: 11/15/19 19:56 Re: Few forties for Friday Author: jgilmore 4) Southbound coal load cresting the grade at Palmer Lake in 1992.
5) CSX WB crawling out of Sand Patch tunnel in 1996. 6) NS high hoods lead a loaded coal train at Carleton, MI, on CN (ex-DT&I) trackage in the early 90s Date: 11/16/19 06:34 Re: Few forties for Friday Author: Selma In the photo of the tower it appears that three large openings have been bricked in. If they were openings why so large and why three?

Older photos show the bricked-in areas were sets of tall windows: https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qcXvDHbmmVI/XLev3XMqgDI/AAAAAAABXvo/ZtQIlBAsOQ0DJ4k9OJ1o7KZh7Lb448LrwCLcBGAs/s1600/57072625_2222775067962325_1214643466005381120_n.jpg https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-whAOwNRDASU/XM69JYxzZKI/AAAAAAABZBE/NDDotIghylArcktvAWqufyuPqvE6GgMZwCLcBGAs/s1600/2.jpg https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Qg_a3HwrbWI/WkuJ1o33LvI/AAAAAAAA7Pc/knVojzw9hfA3TmCcw5QoPF71p2k0Yx1RwCLcBGAs/s1600/12.jpg The photos appear on this site, along with others that suggest the window size had been reduced and the residual areas filled with brick by the late 1950's: http://industrialscenery.blogspot.com/2016/07/state-line-tower-ihb-vs-cssc-vs.html |
