My guess is that this is the Reno Fun Train, and not the SFZ.  Note the ex-ACL tavern obs car on the rear, with a string of Budd coaches ahead.  This isn't the typical consist of your average SFZ of the era.

I changed the caption as I had the same thoughts but was not positive.

Thanks, Jim Evans

Can someone explain again why the UP units and cabooses were common on SP's Donner Pass line?
Thanks!

I would think it pool power.  SP units were common as far east as North Platte in the 70's and early 80's.
I can be corrected on this.

Don't think so.  Metcalf was a Pullman-Standard product while
the pictured car is a Budd Company model.  Car number on the rear door
is AMTK 3334(?).

This looks like a unit grain train that the UP gave to the SP in Ogden, due to the five unit cut-in helper.  Note the brakeman in the first picture on his way back to the lead unit after re-starting at least one of the trailing units that have died in the tunnel from taking in the hot exhaust of the units in front of it.

His arm is visible in front of the SDP's nose in photo #4.
