Nostalgia & History > The "Plug" in July 1978 (GM&O)Date: 12/01/19 14:42 The "Plug" in July 1978 (GM&O) Author: EL833 Long after Amtrak had pretty much homoginized everything out of Union Station in Chicago, there was still a nice variety on the commuter side of things. Between the BN, N&W, and Conrail there was a fair amount of interesting trains, but my personal favorite was always the "Plug", the former Gulf,Mobil &Ohio Joliet train. Shown here about 2 minutes into it's journey in July of 1978, it was a nice taste of what the GM&O looked like in pre Amtrak times.

The end was near, however for this operation. During 1979 ICG Paducah had rebuilt GM&O #883A into MBTA #1153. Thanks for the photo posting. OI remember that train so much during my youth and after returning back home after college.

I always enjoyed seeing this train - even got to ride it one time. Gary Date: 12/02/19 08:43 Re: The "Plug" in July 1978 (GM&O) Author: EL833 gcm Wrote:

To catch this required a day off work and a near 7 hour drive, so the photo got the nod before a ride. Should have taken an extra day off work lol. Roger Durfee Akron, OH |
