Nice shot.  Didn't see many GP38's in Albuquerque in the early 80's, and my eyes got used to the proportions of their ubiquitous GP35's instead.  A GP38 is only three feet longer than a GP35, but for some reason the 38's just look a lot beefier to me.  The GP35's didn't even rate the microscopic snowplow pilots the 38's came with.

Always seemed just a trifle ironic that among Santa Fe's 4-axle EMD's, locomotive 2020 was a GP7, 3030 was a GP20, 3535 was a GP38, and 3838 was a GP50.

Looks like a run of the SF local. I got photos of it back when they used a GP-7or 9.

At that time the GP30/35 was the Coast Lines "do anything" engines. The GP38's were Eastern/Western Lines machines.
