Thanks for the posting. ALLEN Date: 12/19/19 01:08 Re: Forty Plus Years Ago (42) - ATSF Author: Evan_Werkema Nice shot. Didn't see many GP38's in Albuquerque in the early 80's, and my eyes got used to the proportions of their ubiquitous GP35's instead. A GP38 is only three feet longer than a GP35, but for some reason the 38's just look a lot beefier to me. The GP35's didn't even rate the microscopic snowplow pilots the 38's came with.
Always seemed just a trifle ironic that among Santa Fe's 4-axle EMD's, locomotive 2020 was a GP7, 3030 was a GP20, 3535 was a GP38, and 3838 was a GP50. Date: 12/19/19 03:44 Re: Forty Plus Years Ago (42) - ATSF Author: gcm Another very nice one at Joliet.

At that time the GP30/35 was the Coast Lines "do anything" engines. The GP38's were Eastern/Western Lines machines. |
