I almost moved to Gillette, Wyoming in 1967 to work at the newspaper. My wife talked me out of it. Her words were something like, "I don't want to go there. That's where cows die standing up."

I would think at one point in time the capital of South Dakota, Pierre,  would have had a better depot than this one by the cities only railroad, the Chicago and North Western.

The depot shown, yes for CNW, the Q didn't get to Pierre, was the "station" and not a "freight station".  The original depot was long gone
by this date.  A Holiday Inn was on the site of the original depot.  The agent/operator worked out of the "new" building.  I was living in
Pierre at the time.  Thanks for posting these photos, Vince.
