Author: MartyBernard

1.  C&O and PC cabooses on Nicholas, Fayette & Greenbrier RR first week of July 1969.  The Nicholas, Fayette & Greenbrier Railway (NF&G) is a former railroad, controlled by the C&O and NYC, that was named after the three counties it served in the New River coal field in West Virginia.  See: https://abandonedonline.net/location/nicholas-fayette-greenbrier-railway/

2. Western Maryland eastbound at Williamsport, MD probably early 1975.

3. Western Maryland eastbound freight taking the siding at Jerome, MD on November 12, 1972.

For sure!!  Jerome was not an easy place to get to.  To reach Jerome, one had to drive the original B&O main line along the Potomac River from Paw Paw or from Orleans Road, that was abandoned in the early 1960s.  The abandoned right-of-way became an unimproved road, used mostly by fishermen, hikers, and those looking to get away in a remote area.  Jerome was the location of a 2.4 mile section of double track on the WM, with spring switches at each end set for right hand operation, and was a common place for meets.  This shot is at the west end of double track, train is eastbound.  The original B&O main line would be to the left, closer to the Potomac River, and at a lower elevation than the WM.  This WM train has just crossed one of six WM bridges over the Potomac between Little Orleans and Paw Paw, and at the east end of that bridge, it crossed over the B&O right of way.
