Nostalgia & History > TP&W TuesdayDate: 02/25/20 08:00 TP&W Tuesday Author: ghemr Toledo, Peoria and Western, a jointly owned PRR/ATSF company rostered some rarities such as these examples....
1. GP18 600 2. GP35 901 Note the Alco trucks and lack of dynamic brake. Later this locomotive would receive dynamic brakes and EMD trucks by Santa Fe. After many renumberings it is now BNSF 2631. 3. Caboose 521 Half a bay window? All photos taken in early December 1983. A good friend had organized a bus trip with a dozen or so fans to officially tour the TP&W. We were generally free to walk about the property as long as we didn't interfere with operations or climb on equipment. The "Tip-up" was officially merged into the Santa Fe on Dec 31, 1983. different paint schemes. Long live Effner, Indiana. Thanks for the great photos. Date: 02/25/20 20:28 Re: TP&W Tuesday Author: krm152 Very interesting photos. #901 is one of those units that seems to last forever.
Thanks for posting the TP&W photos, something of a rarity on TO. ALLEN Date: 02/25/20 23:01 Re: TP&W Tuesday Author: Evan_Werkema dtoeppen Wrote:

The ones on either side of 521 are leased AT&SF extended-vision waycars that would revert back to the parent road, and 521 is one of only three TP&W bay window hacks that Santa Fe actually took ownership of as part of the merger. It got a full repaint in Santa Fe caboose colors with a yellow bay window (to denote local service assignments only) and the road number 999653, Class Ce-13: http://rr-fallenflags.org/atsf/atsf999653dsa.jpg http://rr-fallenflags.org/atsf/atsf999653as.jpg It worked for about four years before being retired and sold in February 1988, ending up at the now-closed Bledsoe Ag Depot in Bledsoe, TX: https://www.flickr.com/photos/courthouselover/1455439935 https://goo.gl/maps/EX7bfnyYsB99nGQD9 |
