.   .   .   back in DEC '76, an eastbound WP train for the "HiLine" was climbing across Rock Creek trestle deep in the confines of California's Feather River Canyon.

Interesting pole line, but I cannot see any wires. Maybe gone by this date, but I doubt it.
Looks like one fairly new pole but what a job it must have been to get the pole into the hole that must have been hard to drill, considering the slope of the ground.

Gas powered pole augers. Utility crews have been using them since 1920 or so.

If you look closely you can very faintly see the wires in the span between the two poles.  Note the snow braces on the cross arms.

Great image.  I also like the freight consist, nice clean boxcars.  That Railbox almost looks out of place, being so bright.
