Nostalgia & History > Matched Set Saturday: Especially for GP9 Enthusiasts - 1976Date: 03/21/20 00:08 Matched Set Saturday: Especially for GP9 Enthusiasts - 1976 Author: krm152 On March 14, 1976, I was a member of a railfan party of five (ridding center rear seat in a 1975 Ford Maverick) that journeyed from Winston Salem to the West Virginia coalfields. The driver was originally from our railfanning destination so he did not need any maps.
At Eccles, WV we came upon a southbound C&O coal train powered by four GP9 units, #6166, #6233, #6202, & ?. Still remember that the engineer gave me a friendly wave after I took the posted photo. Always nice to see the older paint scheme. Are these all C&O units or is there a B&O engine in there. Gary Date: 03/21/20 10:20 Re: Matched Set Saturday: Especially for GP9 Enthusiasts - 1976 Author: krm152 gcm Wrote:

Third engine was actually #6202. Have made correction. First three units were and remained C&O. My guess is fourth unit is C&O, but just that. I did not note the units. Did not take a going away shot as this was end of roll and end of trip. That was poor film management; it didn't happen often. ALLEN Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/21/20 11:23 by krm152. |
