That's a very nice photo of a handsome locomotive.  The E7s were regularly assigned to Great Northern's Badger and Gopher which ran between St. Paul and Duluth.  They even lasted into the BN era on this route.

As for the Milwaukee Road unit in the background, it got to Duluth on trackage rights.  The Milwaukee Road never had a line from the Twin Cities to the Twin Ports.

Whoever shot this was at the NP's Rice's Point engine facility.  That's where the Milwaukee power laid over in Duluth.  Nice shot, thanks for posting.
