Nostalgia & History > WM F units on excursionDate: 03/28/20 07:55 WM F units on excursion Author: gcm Heading to Baltimore passing over the Thomas Viaduct (opened in 1835).
This was an excursion with a pair of Western Maryland F units right before they were retired. All Southern cars except for the one behind the units - ex-B&O "Edward G. Hooper"' TO's ClubCar was on this trip and in an earlier post he mentioned he was riding in the B&O car. John - looked like fun times in that car !. An incredible viaduct built so long ago and amazingly on a curve. A really great trip. Sept 79 Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/28/20 07:56 by gcm. Thanks for this excellent photo posting. ALLEN Date: 03/28/20 09:06 Re: WM F units on excursion Author: refarkas Two first-class scenic photos.
Bob Date: 03/28/20 09:55 Re: WM F units on excursion Author: ClubCar Love the photos GCM and yes as I stated before, I was riding the entire trip in the former B&O Club Observation Car #3302 "Edward G. Hooper." Even with the lead engine developing an electrical motor problem, we had fun as there was lots of food to eat and cool beverages along with some officials from the Chessie System. The saddest part today is that when the group called Railroad Passenger Cars (RRP) went out of business, they donated this car and several others to the B&O R.R. Museum in Baltimore and at the time of the donation, the executive director of the museum promised that the cars would be properly maintained for future generations to enjoy. When he retired the next person who took over reneged on the promise and the former B&O 3302 is now sitting outside in the front yard being allowed to rust away. A real shame for sure. See the photo attached.
Thanks for sharing your photos. John in White Marsh, Maryland Date: 03/28/20 10:57 Re: WM F units on excursion Author: WM_1109 Thanks for sharing these two photos. Looks like there was more than a few non-paying fans standing around the obelisk on the east side of the Viaduct as well.

Was a Chessie weekend event in Grafton and also heard a US Senator playing the fiddle onstage in downtown Grafton. Was in early 1980's. rrcaboose Date: 03/28/20 19:48 Re: WM F units on excursion Author: 2839Canadian This looks like the trip to Harpers Ferry and return during the 1979 NRHS convention.
The trees in these photos are much taller now, and they almost completely obscure the viaduct. Date: 03/29/20 03:05 Re: WM F units on excursion Author: gcm seaboardc30-7 Wrote:
