Some Alco action for MoP Monday
Author: cewherry

Well, mostly Alco with some EMD help. Here's re-engined MoP 1083 at Santa Fe's Argentine Yard
shoving its transfer caboose to a hook on a drag to take back to home rails. November 1, 1968.

Question for you Argentine pros: Since he's shoving westward here and the caboose will be on
the east end of its train, did the power run around the track and shove out of the yard?
I didn't stick around to watch their departure.

Charlie

An EMD trapped in an Alco body.  I wonder how it identifies..

I think the MOP crew will have the caboose on the west end of their drag, and have their engine leading back to Neff, it is a long way from Argentine to Neff for a shoving movement. Mop crews were always going  after OT, so any extra moves were icing on the cake. I can't remember ever seeing  transfers getting shoved on the KCT, it did probably did happen, but I don't recall any. KCRW@87

Some would call it the "perfect" locpmotive. EMD engine and a GE electrical system.

Really like the angle and light on this shot.
Oh yeah - the engine is certainly interesting.
