Nostalgia & History > Conrail Crew Change Pittsburgh 1985Date: 04/08/20 08:41 Conrail Crew Change Pittsburgh 1985 Author: RRTom July 1985, Penn Station Pittsburgh, PA
A westbound freight slows down to a stop just past EAST PITT interlocking for a crew change. This train was entirely loaded piggyback flats and autoracks and had a N-10 caboose on the rear, even at this late date. Date: 04/08/20 08:43 Re: Conrail Crew Change Pittsburgh 1985 Author: RRTom After a quick crew change, the train is on the move westbound through Penn Station.
It passes a 2-unit helper set stationed at the station. In the going away shot below, the head end enters a sunny patch because PennDOT has removed the station roof there and is building I-579 overhead, practically right through the station. Conrail kept some old tank cars here to fuel their helpers.

Date: 04/08/20 12:17 Re: Conrail Crew Change Pittsburgh 1985 Author: RRTom I was wondering about the crews' runs also. Maybe they were short on time and the re-crew was changed from Conway to here?
Calling Rodney Zena!? He seems to know all about crew districts. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 04/08/20 12:22 by RRTom. Date: 04/08/20 16:05 Re: Conrail Crew Change Pittsburgh 1985 Author: Steinzeit2 RRTom Wrote:

The new crew would still have to be changed at Conway, wouldn't it ? SZ Date: 04/08/20 16:28 Re: Conrail Crew Change Pittsburgh 1985 Author: RRTom Maybe but at least the train keeps moving. Maybe there’s some crew qualified In both directions from Conway. Amtrak changed crews at the station, now that I think of it.
I really hope someone who knows can explain. Posted from iPhone Date: 04/08/20 17:04 Re: Conrail Crew Change Pittsburgh 1985 Author: Neutron-Don Name of the location was "Box Four"
