Regards, Jim Evans Date: 05/20/20 20:15 Re: SP E7 Air Horn Question Author: photobob This is a few years before your question but here's an SP E7 along Taylor Yard in 1960.
Robert Morris Dunsmuir, CA Robert Morris Photography Date: 05/21/20 01:27 Re: SP E7 Air Horn Question Author: Evan_Werkema The horns on the E-unit in Photobob's photo are Leslie Tyfon A-200-156's. These were the horns the E7's came with, and were gradually replaced by multichime Nathan airhorns. Here's the 6004 in 1965 sporting an M5:
http://rr-fallenflags.org/sp/sp6004m03.jpg The 1964 photos of 6001 and 6003 in these old threads also show M5's on the roof: https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,3071831,3071833#3071833 https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,5028011 According to Strapac's Southern Pacific Diesel Locomotive Compendium v.1, the 6001 and 6017 were retired in 1966, 6002 in January 1967, and 6004 in May 1967. That only left two cab unit E7's on the roster for the duration of 1967 (6000 and 6003), and I have to wonder how many miles they actually rolled up in 1967 as opposed to just sitting in storage. In any case, the last two SP E7's finally left the roster in 1968. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 05/23/20 21:26 by Evan_Werkema. BTW, my father introduced me to Bob's vantage point on that pedestrian overcrossing. Railfan bait! ...Lorenzo Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/21/20 16:45 by 567Chant. |
