Good grief, Charlie Brown! First, "ATSF100WEST" whacks me right in the nostalgia-bone with that killer 50s-era Rock Island image. In my home state, no less! And now you sneak up on me with THIS! Right off the show-room floor. Mercy... I'll probably just be a basket case the rest of the day...

This is one of the unusual "long bonnets" due to the unusual length of the bonnet.  Great photo.

When I hostled at Barstow in 1964 every unit would be moved through the locomotive wash rack before being moved to the outbound ready tracks or to the shop area tracks (which we see here).  We didn't allow locomotives to run around dirty.

I've read many comments about  the mechanical forces getting the silver overspray up on the walkway or onto the body of the warbonnet painted units.  Well, did you notice here that they even got the overspray onto the top of rails of the adjacent track?  Boy, were they sloppy painters..........................

Interim Warbonnets...

19 seems to have been one of the most photographed F3's on the Santa Fe.  I cannot count the number of times I've seen photos of it.  And it was later rebuilt to F7 appearance.  Of course, the most famous photo of 19 shows it hanging over the edge of LAUPT after running through a bumper.  Anyway, this is a very nice photo and thanks for posting.
