Nostalgia & History > MKT freight with some interesting boxcarsDate: 06/28/20 08:21 MKT freight with some interesting boxcars Author: gcm April 78
A few 40ft boxcars with friction bearings are part of a southbound Katy train on the Galveston Houston & Henderson (at the Henderson part) in Houston. I think I miss this as much- maybe more- than the old units. The trains themselves are pretty ho hum these days...

That seems to have been the last hurrah for 40 footers coming out of rickety branch lines and ancient small town grain silos. Des Moines, Fort Dodge and Southern was icing on the cake. Thanks for another excellent and unique posting. ALLEN Date: 06/28/20 16:06 Re: MKT freight with some interesting boxcars Author: PHall Some of the older country elevators could only load 40 foot boxcars.
