When I hung out at the Dover, NJ station, the baggage man (Joe) was none too happy when someone flushed in the station.
He uttered his trademark polite expletive, "Red hot! Red hot!"

Isn't the region bounded by Sunnyside and New York primarily the East River tunnels? Does anyone think that all the Metroliner / Silverliner bathroom doors really got locked and then unlocked for this short stretch?

While doing trackwork on the NEC in the early 90s, we would scan approaching Amtrak trains to see if they had any straight-side (heritage) cars.  If so, everyone would move back as far as possible and turn around to avoid the inevitable spray from the outdoor discharge plumbing.  No need to worry about Amfleets.
