Flare Friday CNW on the MILW

CNW 976 West meets a MILW Train at Deer Creek Siding on the north side of Clinton IA in January 1980. The 976 will get on the CNW at 5th St in Clinton and run to Tama IA to get back on Milwaukee Rails for the remainder of the trip to Perry, provided the crew makes it in 12 hours.

Great sense of forboding in this moody photo. I suppose the CNW unit is leading for cab signals. But the either the end of the Milwaukee is near or already here. In Iowa anyway.

Yes CNW leader for ATC. The CNW traded 10 SD45s for 10 MIILW SD45s so MILW could use the CNW Power for their Council Bluffs train up til the end in March of 1980.

The end was just a little over a month away - March 1.  Great picture - love the mood.
