Nostalgia & History > The westbound WP California Zephyr detour on the SPDate: 08/04/20 20:36 The westbound WP California Zephyr detour on the SP Author: photobob The westbound California Zephyr drops down grade near Auburn back in the early 1960's. Later that afternoon I photographed the eastbound near Newcastle. Notice the sun is full face on a westbound.

I can see why it took over 50 years to figure out which way they're going. Date: 08/04/20 21:31 Re: The westbound WP California Zephyr detour on the SP Author: TomG Still waiting for Photo Bobs WP. lol
Date: 08/04/20 22:10 Re: The westbound WP California Zephyr detour on the SP Author: MojaveBill It also came through here in the late '40s or early '50s during the big snowstorms up north, along with COSF, etc.
I seem to recall it had an SP GS pilot engine and was westbound. Bill Deaver Tehachapi, CA Date: 08/04/20 22:27 Re: The westbound WP California Zephyr detour on the SP Author: krm152 Definitely an excellent photo in its own right.
The detour move really made it special. The SP pilot engine sealed the deal. Thanks for your photo posting. ALLEN Date: 08/05/20 09:20 Re: California Zephyr on SP Author: timz Guess that must be MP 116 up there.
