Some New York and Greenwood Lake Railway Power
Author: MartyBernard

I was in Port Jervis one dull day.  Never been there before.  Found these guys.

See:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_and_Greenwood_Lake_Railway_(1996)

1 and 2. New York and Greenwood Lake Railway E8A 833 (ex-Conrail 4022 nee Erie 833) at Port Jervis, NY on July 1, 2013.

3. New York and Greenwood Lake Railway RS-3 935 (ex-Depew Lancaster & Western/Ontario Eastern/Ontario Midland/Delaware & Hudson 4085) at Port Jervis, NY on July 1, 2013

Enjoy,
Marty Bernard

What's the plastic screen on top of the headlight of the E? Bug deflector?

Sad that they continue to sit there and rot away.  No maintenance, no protection and an absent owner.

Yes - I know the Erie units had them, not sure if the DL&W E8's did.

Used to be a local Shortline guy named Jimmy Lewis, I think. The New York and Greenwood Lake was an actual Erie railroad commuter branch and you can still see traces of the right of way as you head west in that general direction along the public highways.

These units have been here for years. No idea of ownership or disposition today.

Jim Wilson is (was?) the principal behind the New York & Greenwood Lake.  His operation ran the rail side of the garbage transfer in Passaic NJ.  And the street running in adjacent Garfield.

The last remnants of the Passaic operation are a few derelict units adjacent to the former trash transfer site.

(The original NY&GL was indeed an Erie Line which hauled commuters from Jersey City up to Wanaque NJ, by Greenwood Lake. Parts of it were later merged into today's NJ Transit Boonton Line.)
