Nostalgia & History > Switcher Saturday . . .Date: 09/12/20 07:05 Switcher Saturday . . . Author: 3rdswitch . . . during a JUL '87, visit to Needels, CA, on the Santa Fe "transcon", a slow speed special came into the yard from the west hauling a trio of former SP SW's. I don't recall their destination? Must have been a long slow trip across the desert from Barstow for this crew. Thankfully, the Forty dash two doing the work, had an air conditioner.

RC Lundgren Date: 09/12/20 17:14 Re: Switcher Saturday . . . Author: PHall The switchers are SW900E's and the SP Western Divison TT 26, April 29, 1984, says they're good for 65 MPH.

Date: 09/12/20 19:07 Re: Switcher Saturday . . . Author: 3rdswitch Yes, maybe 65 on the SP, but, they are on the Santa Fe. The problem MAY have been the couplers?

According to the ATSF Western Region TT No. 1, May 21, 1989, the SSB1200's were good for 45 MPH. And they have the same trucks as the SW900E's except they have roller bearings instead the friction bearings the SP units have. |
