Nostalgia & History > KCS F7A 4058 and a bit earlier as 88

1) In June 81, F7A 4058 and a GP30 are at the station in Sulphur Springs,Tx.

2-3) In Dec 77 the same unit (88) is in storage at Shreveport before it was repainted (and rebuilt ?)
It was scrapped in 1986.

Don't think so. Can you zoom to the rear bottom corner of the red unit? That's the real number. KCS did some screwy things with F unit numberboards. Think it says L&A 72

You're right - KCS did some wierd numbering on their units.
But this is the F unit that became 4058.
The rear says KCS 71C.
In a KCS book I was using for info, the 4058 was listed as originally 71C(88).
Strange.

F-Units in freight swervice on class ones were really getting rare in the late 70's and early 80's.
Thanks for your interesting photo post of these wonderful machines on the KCS.

Nice series and info Gary. I'm generally partial to the white scheme with the big "K C S" if it was clean.

Wonderful looks back when it was the "haywire"--those red units really looked good whenever I saw them in Pittsburg KS in the early 70s.
