Nostalgia & History > First arrivalDate: 09/27/20 11:53 First arrival Author: tomstp A rather "large crowd" has gathered to welcome Texas & Pacific's first passenger train arrival in Kermit, Tx in 1929. I say "large" because there were not that many people living there then. It was on a short branch from the mainline T&P of the Texas-New Mexico RR running from Monahans, Tx to Lovington,NM. T&P owned the road and sent a train with appropriate sized Class D-11 ten-wheeler all dressed up in the T&P's "light russia" paint scheme and a sparkling clean engine too. The way the dirt blows out there that was an accomplishment all its own.
