Nostalgia & History > Friday Favorite: 4-8-4 Steam Engine - 1989Date: 10/23/20 00:16 Friday Favorite: 4-8-4 Steam Engine - 1989 Author: krm152 This photo of Reading #2124 (4-8-4), Class T-1, was taken at Steamtown on Oct 29, 1989. Engines of 4-8-4 wheel arrangement, often referred to as the Northern class, are high on my list of favorite steam engines. In turn, the Reading T-1’s, are among my favorite 4-8-4’s. They have a very powerful appearance but still have nice clean lines.
Hopefully #2102 will soon run again on the Reading & Northern. ALLEN Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/13/22 13:57 by krm152. Of course helicopter parents had not yet been invented and an 11 yr old was "mature" enough go solo. Rode behind the 2124 several times and mostly hung out in the tape car, the baggage car where all the fans gathered to record those amazing trips. Thanks for posting.

I rode behind the ‘02 many many times on the BM&R, and was even on the I’ll fated September 1985 trip from Reading to Jim Thorpe that broke down on the return due to foaming agent in the water that was provided by a fire department.

Also, I was on that September 1985 Steam Trip and my wife had called the Pa.State Police wondering what happened. to me. Anyone have an
update on the 2102? Tim McRea |
