Nostalgia & History > Southern Pacific Klamath Falls yard & Klamath Lake film clipDate: 11/14/20 07:20 Southern Pacific Klamath Falls yard & Klamath Lake film clip Author: KCRW287 Film clip from Klamath Falls yard and some road action at Klamath Lake and another shot at an unknown location. The station does have an Amtrak sign, so post Amtrak on the yard shot. The road clips are probably 1972-1975. Photographer unknown, my collection. KCRW287

SP 2116 - retired 31 July 1973 SP 2120 - retired 27 September 1973 So it must have been shot sometime before August 1973. Ron Date: 11/14/20 09:33 Re: Southern Pacific Klamath Falls yard & Klamath Lake film clip Author: TCnR Interesting to see what has changed through the years. Same clouds though.
Second to last location is about where the Pilot truck stop is now, just north of KF but south of the truck scales. There was a big mill on the lakeshore behind the boxcars. The area is roughly where the Jeld-Wen plant is now. The last location is the old hiway 97 overpass at Chemult, the new overpass is just a bit to the south of the old location. the BN tracks would be just south around the curve. Both trains were compass southbound or 'SP westbound'. t4p. + nope, not Pilot truck stop, see below. Time for a road trip. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/14/20 11:57 by TCnR. I think I remember seeing a few of them once or twice in the past...
;^) Date: 11/14/20 11:44 Re: Southern Pacific Klamath Falls yard & Klamath Lake film clip Author: Jeff I respectfully disagree about the location of the lakeside shot. I am pretty sure it is at Modoc, the first place a Southbound train comes next to the lake. The view of Mt. Mcloughlin across the lake is appropriate for Modoc. Also the highway is right next to the track and above it and hte highway department sign calling out upper Klamath Lake is right where it should be. Jeff

Forgot about the old Mill there with the water tower. Time for a road trip. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/14/20 11:58 by TCnR. Ran a lot of those Espee Road units across NW Florida in Pool Service.

Date: 11/14/20 17:57 Re: Southern Pacific Klamath Falls yard & Klamath Lake film clip Author: KCRW287 Thanks for the info on the locomotives and locations. I do have a lot more SP film, I need to get the SP stuff together and put it on. I was getting confused with Klamath Falls & the area, I kept going California instead of Oregon, I guess the old filters are slowing down, thanks again, KCRW287
