Nostalgia & History > Warbonnet Wednesday: MixedDate: 11/25/20 12:16 Warbonnet Wednesday: Mixed Author: jimB 3rdswitch's great photos of Santa Fe 101 and a mix of warbonnet + kodachrome power got me to remember the only time I ever caught that mix. Here we have the second 991 train at Woodford and Cable sidings in the Tehachapi Mountains with 101 leading, an unknown FP45, an SD40-2 and a kodachrome SF30C(?) or whatever they called the U36C rebuilds. Date was June 1990.

The FP45 is the 90, the only Superfleet FP45 that ran around for a while with its horn still mounted on the cab roof. The rest of the FP45's had their horns moved back onto the carbody either before or when repainted red and silver. The red and yellow GE with those protruding but blank rear numberboards is a late C30-7. Santa Fe's SF30C's and the U36C's they were built from had no rear numberboards at all. |
