IC's 6700s, future 6100s
Author: bodkin6071

My latest Ebay acquisition. 12 slides from 1991 and 1993 of when the ex-BN 6700's first showed up on the IC property, prior to receiving their black dip paint and being # in the 6100 series. The ones still with their DB's were numbered in the 6140 series and eventually the 6200 series after being rebuilt to -3 specs.

No locations or photographer were written on the slides, only the date. Maybe some here can figure out the locations? My money is on some being taken in Champaign.

1. IC 6757 May 4, 1993
2. IC 6749 October 4, 1991
3. IC 6752 October 28, 1991

It was cool trying to catch those during the short period they were green with I.C. patches, though that was tempered by the knowledge that the SD20's were targeted for replacement by them.  Kurt and I both liked the SD20's (crews, not so much) because they made some beautiful racket when they were working.

Wow! Great shots! I moved to Carbondale, IL in the January 94. I never managed to catch one of these in green/black, and never knew there was such variety in the patch paint. Forgot that IC get rid of the DB’s right away. This is an amazing series to study.

I was fortunate enough to see the IC patched units myself, at the age of 7-8. But cannot recall seeing the SD20's unfortunately.

I have lived near Champaign since 1977 and I think they were all Champaign shots. I could recognize the location the shots were taken from and the track and background are very familiar on them. I have been at those locations many times over the years. I also remember when they got those locomotives and it was an interesting time to go down and wee what would show up of the BN locomotives.
