Nostalgia & History > EMD Model 40 information soughtDate: 01/02/21 10:48 EMD Model 40 information sought Author: EMDSW-1 Could anyone familiar with the EMD Model 40 four-wheel "critter" advise (1) the wheel diameter; (2) voltage of starting/control system (assuming 32 volts); (3) nominal working voltage of traction system (assuming 300 or 600 VDC) and anything else that would be helpful for building a full-size replica from scratch. Since nobody wants to let go of any of the few derilect ones still around we may decide to build a shop switcher from an EMD cab and GE-45 tonner components.
Many thanks; Dick Samuels Oregon Pacific Railroad Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/02/21 11:05 by EMDSW-1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMD_Model_40 Probably the closest one to you is at Travel Town in Los Angeles, CA. It's a former Navy unit that later worked for McDonnell Douglas. It was operational, last I knew: https://www.laparks.org/traveltown/locomotives/travel-town-1-charley-atkins Date: 04/27/21 08:46 Re: EMD Model 40 information sought Author: Southern-Pacific-fan Congrats on your purchase of S/N 1835, was then later sold to the American Steel Foundry and renumbered 51. It then went to Borg-Warner and lastly worked at Calumet Steel as their No. 1.
