In this week's Edwards County Kansas Sentinel newspaper, Joan Weaver, the Kinsley, KS Librarian offered this article concerning the massive Western Kansas blizzard of 1886.  Kinsley would be nearly 37 miles east/northeast of Dodge City, KS on what later became the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe (AT&SF) railroad.  Snow apparently was of a high moisture content leaving the locomotive snow plow of little force and instead, demanded many men and their shovels to tackle the task.  Today's snows amount to virtually little to nothing and the BNSF locomotives roll through this territory with basically no effort.  Sorry for the way the article displays, but if read column-wise through the three attachments and left to right, it should all be complete.

Entertaining read and wonder if a rotary would have helped out more than just plows.
