Guess this would work for SD40 Friday also.
Westbound off the Cascade Line.

Nice shot.  Don not ever recall seeing a photo from that angle at Black Butte previous.  TomE

Thanks, for us not in the know, what is the track curving off to the left?

Part of the wye leading to the original mainline to the north, the Siskyou Line which passes through Ashland, Medford, and Grants Pass, joining the Cascade Line at Springfield Junction, west of Eugene, Oregon.

Why is there someone in that fourth unit?  Maybe the rear brakeman decided to ride up front for some reason.  I had my two brakeman up front a number of times leaving the "conducer" by himself in the caboose.  Usually only when we had work to do enroute.

A lot of work done there.  4th unit is next to the box car on the House or 1 track.  House and 1 were used for power in my day.   Ahead of the units to the west is the South & Siskiyou sidings and the storage track.  Maybe some units being picked up or swapped around from the Siskiyou Line or helpers.
