Whatever happened to these CSX 6000-hp beasts?
Author: jgilmore

Took this shot at Sand Patch in the late 90s of a WB trailer train with 2 AC60s in the lead. Whatever happened to them, retired early, re-engined? I know they weren't well-liked or that useful to the roads that bought them... JG

I thought they were great. You could really feel the difference in power. Only problem i had was when they
were low on water they would derate themselves power-wise. They had a goofy two radiator set-up.

AC6000CW (CW60AC if you prefer CSX designatiojn) disposition here (link).

Bullsheet further lists:
600 YN2 . . CW44AC
601 YN2 - SPIRIT OF WAYCROSS . CW44AC
602 YN3b [RAILCAR LOGO] SPIRIT OF MARYLAND . CW44AC

which seems to imply they're still in service (albeit derated).

But I'm no CSX historian, so take this with a pinch of salt, and hopefully someone better informed can provide better information, such as what Progress Rail has done with all these locomotives since 2018.

I've seen some in lease fleets so they may have been returned.  Try the Diesel Shop site and see what it says.

Some were retired/scrapped, some were derated to 4400hp, some were re-engined with 4400hp lumps. None remain at 6000hp operationally. A few quite recently ended up on lease, not sure if they're still there.

Western New York & Pennsylvania picked up a few, currently sporting the black and gold/yellow livery
