By this time the larger units were taking control of  Donner freight but there were still
a lot of Fs for use on the point and as helpers. Looks like a tie replacement project
was soon to come on the outside track .

Looks like the "X" is still in the indicator on the 368.  SP quit doing that in June of '67.  Guess maybe that unit hasn't been on the point since then.

I see you caught a New Englander on summer vacation.

The pole line is still intact-  it's pretty much "gone back to god" these days.
I arrived up here too late to see F's on The Hill.  I saw them on the Coast and even in The Bay Area in the early 70's, but not The Hill.
sigh

Not being familiar with this spot, is this an eastbound or westbound?

The title noted it as an eastbound.

In the middle sixties, SP was running 6 and 7 unit packs as helpers on fruit blocks.  Back in 66, at Magra, 2 eastbounds one Sunday afternoon, one with 6 units and the second 4 units. Both had 4 bid SD's on the headend.
Gone are the great days, when SP threw any and everything they had, covered wagons, GP's to Cadillacs to get these 100 plus car behemoths over the Hill.  The sound was out of this world!!
