Friday Forties
Author: jgilmore

1) BN forties lead a speedy intermodal out of Houston for the PNW (#91 or #92, could never keep those numbers straight) at Haslet, TX, in '88 or '89.
2) EB autos on CP in the Thompson River canyon in 1992. Second unit looks to be boarded up. Not to used as leader I guess?
3) Loaded southbound grain at unmistakable Tower 55 in 1987. Has much of my life really passed by that quickly?

The CP SD40-2 in your second photo with the boarded up cab was equipped with Locotrol receiving equipment, and would operate with another locomotive as a pair of mid train 'slaves' on westbound unit trains of bulk commodities. The lead unit is one of the few equipped with Locotrol transmitting equipment.  Once this eastbound gets over the mountains to Calgary, these units will likely be removed and set up on a loaded westbound unit train.

Easy. Odd numbers westward, even numbers east. So this is Train 91. In this case, north and west.
