Nostalgia & History > Dearborn Switchers in 1964Date: 03/02/21 13:21 Dearborn Switchers in 1964 Author: BNSF-6432 Dearborn is one of those places you could look at a picture for hours and still find something of interest. Frank Tribbey shot an extensive amount of film from Roosevelt Rd but what railfan couldn't. With consistently departing trains, station switchers, and locals serving REA, a dry spell seemed hard to come by. Here's a pair of photos showing locals working the mail portion of Dearborn in 1964.
1) Erie Alco 523 shoves a couple cars in guided by an Erie caboose. The docked L&N trailer certainly stands out. August 1964 2) An ATSF zebra striped FM switcher switches a variety of head end cars under downtown Chicago. Yes, a lot of confidence by the owners of the cars to park them there - with constant truck traffic on one side and trains passing a few feet away on the other.
