Nostalgia & History > Old Man('s) Winter on Donner 2Date: 03/06/21 10:59 Old Man('s) Winter on Donner 2 Author: BoilingMan A little bit of explination.
The Shed that covered the 1 Track shared a wall with the Turntable, and wasn't lined. In other words- if you were standing on the Turntable you could see trains passing by on the ajoining 1 Track. So... The operator had told me he had a WB coming on the #1, and that it was a Western Pacific Detour (I guess there was Trouble In The Canyon). So I shot the head end entering the sheds by leaning in from the Turntable Shed. I was hoping there'd be a WP unit on the point, but no- UP was leading. So next best- maybe a WP caboose? I raced to get out of the shed through an opening, somewhere in the left corner of this photo, and tumbled down the pile of snow outside. (My being both spry and nuts!) Yep... a WP caboose! Great depiction in the last shot of why snow sheds are needed there.

Elizabeth Date: 03/06/21 17:16 Re: Old Man('s) Winter 2 Author: BoilingMan I moved up here in ‘82. In my first years living up here. I was really cranking out the B&W! If I recall the Winters of 83-84 and 84-85 were pretty impressive, so most likely these are from about then.

Well, then maybe 82-83 too. I was new, but I was here. I didn’t keep track of things record-wise.
