Nostalgia & History > Sunday Santa Fe . . .Date: 03/07/21 05:46 Sunday Santa Fe . . . Author: 3rdswitch . . . back in FEB '87, a westbound export coal train was climbing "Monoco Hill", on Santa Fe's Harbor Sub main, at Lawndale, CA. At the time, this was Santa Fe's only route to the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, and, in it's later years, saw as many as twenty trains a day. Today, this route has been severed, with all through trains using the "Alameda Corridor" from downtown Los Angeles to the ports, and this section seeing one movement in each direction by a daily switch job to serve the Chevron refinery in El Segundo.
