LA County's El Camino- The LAST Run
Author: BoilingMan

I was a still pretty new Extra Board LSA in LA in 1985.  One afternoon I reported for my assignment to work #4, the Southwest Chief.  Alongside our train in the coach yard was the trainset of the defunct LA County El Camino.  Apparently the train had been sold to Mexico's Copper Canyon and had been serviced for the final trip South.  I was busy preparing my cafe car for our Chicago run, but I managed a few quick photos...

About that same time period, I was working a switch job at Santa Fe's Hobart Yard, and handled the equipment either to or from the LAJ, where they had been in storage for years before being sold. I  may  have been the job that brought them over to 8th Street yard? But, I don't remember?

Some people thought that Baxter Ward was crazy in regards to his "Choo Choo" but he was a visionary in regards to commuter rail.  He was a man before his time in that regard.

Apparently  Silver Planet has been scrapped , i was holding out hope, that they were moved, but unlikely it  seems.

Two MILW cars also.

The two Milw Tap Lounge cars were:
MILW 172  became LA 106 Palos Verdes  built company shops 1948.
MILW 173  became LA  107 Montebello     built company shops 1948.

These cars lasted longer  then the chair cars, being used on the CHP   train 1 & 2 all stop local, as a one man snack/beverage.
My guess is they lasted until 2000, maybe longer.
