SP Locations/Directions
Author: Art045

Good Morning - here are a few Barney Stone shot on a 10 June 1951 trip using the SP 2728 as the power (my god, they could turn them out looking good, when they wanted to?!?).  Other shots on this day were taken in Chico and in Paradise.  These had no location on them.  Is exposure 17 (the first of the group of three) at Diamond Match?  They did shoot some of Diamond's locomotives working that day, as well.  Unfortunately, it was high-noon in early June, so not much truck/wheel detail.  Appreciate any/all reaction to these three!  BTW, the other two shots were Barney's exposures 21 and 22.  There's one more, which I'll add in a following post.  Thanks for any/all help any of you can offer!  All the best, Art

As promised, here's the fourth image of the 2728 and train.  This was Barney's exposure 24.  Thanks in advance for any/all help with locations/directions, etc.!  Have a great day, Art

Once again, can't help with the locations, but I'm sure enjoying these views.  Thanks!

If some of those photos are in Chico, it's a good bet that the first photo is in Stirling City, CA.

For your first image, I think you'll find a match for Stirling City here

This one shows the train facing railroad eastbound at Chico, CA.  The trip was the Cal-Nevada and Pacific Coast Chapter R&LHS "Weekend in Paradise" excursion.  The flyer is below, courtesy the Western Railway Museum Archives.

Even after allowing for inflation, those are very reasonable fares in the brochure.
