One That Continued To Run.....
Author: ghCBNS

Amtrak Day 50 years ago. US Railroads discontinued their trains that crossed the US-Canada Border but several Canadian trains continued to cross the border including CP Rail's 'Atlantic Limited'......200 miles across the State of Maine between Montreal and Saint John, New Brunswick. A short little full-service Streamliner with E8 + Baggage, Coach, Skyline Dome Coffee-Shop and Sleepers. Here's some 'Kodak Insatmatic Memories' from 1971.

I rode the Atlantic in the Summer of 1975.  I was hoping to make a connection from Amtrak (Delaware & Hudson's) Adirondack.  However, were were running late due to excessive time clearing Canadian customs.  When I made the crew aware of my dilemma, they arranged for the Atlantic to stop somewhere between Montreal West and Windsor Station.  The two crews lined up the trains so that I stepped off the vestibule of the Adirondack, onto the ballast for three steps, then onto a waiting stepbox of the Atlantic.  The Atlantic crew told me this happened at least twice a week!
