Nostalgia & History > Gulf Breeze on ex-L&NDate: 06/13/21 04:28 Gulf Breeze on ex-L&N Author: gcm Aug 90
Headed north just south of Atmore,Al on the CSX ex-L&N main. The train operated from 1989-1995 between Mobile and Birmingham and connected with the Crescent in Birmingham. When I arrived at this spot the signals were dark, great, I thought they would come on when the train was near and give me some warning but all of the sudden I looked up and the Gulf Breeze was at the signals and they were still dark. They didn't come on till the train had passed them. Was this normal on L&N signals in this area ? Thanks. Gary Date: 06/13/21 15:09 Re: Gulf Breeze on ex-L&N Author: refarkas Looking good.
Bob Date: 06/13/21 16:46 Re: Gulf Breeze on ex-L&N Author: ln844south Gary,
It was normal, at least on the M&M subdivision and I would guess on the rest of the L&N. IF a train was coming at you and you see dark signals, they will light up red or stop when the oncoming train enters the OS or control point. I've gone by both intermediate and absolute signals that were lit as I faced them, and see the backside light up in my rear view mirror after I passed them. Steve.
