Nostalgia & History > Delaware & Hudson at Oneonta NY, 1974 & 1984Date: 06/13/21 17:21 Delaware & Hudson at Oneonta NY, 1974 & 1984 Author: thebluecomet I stopped at the D&H facility in Oneonta, NY back on September 19, 1974. Shot numerous things and was invited up into the tower. Here is a sample.
1. "FA" tower at Oneonta. Would anyone know why is was called "FA" ? 2. Inside the tower. My notes indicate the guy's name was M. Ross. 3. As viewed from the tower, U33C 751 leads a southbound through the yard and past the shops. Date: 06/13/21 17:24 Re: Delaware & Hudson at Oneonta NY, 1974 & 1984 Author: thebluecomet 4. Same train passing the tower.
5. Walked the length of the shop area since there were no movements around. Just D&H power and alot of dead rats. 6. Another set of power. Date: 06/13/21 17:28 Re: Delaware & Hudson at Oneonta NY, 1974 & 1984 Author: thebluecomet 7. U23B 2304 on another set of units.
8. The 2312 was used on the "Preamble Express". This was the "scout" train for the upcoming American Freedom Train that was run for the Bi-Centennial. 9. The wreck train parked. Some real goodies here. Date: 06/13/21 17:32 Re: Delaware & Hudson at Oneonta NY, 1974 & 1984 Author: thebluecomet 10. Fast forward 10 years and much has changed. The tower is closed and the yard scaled way back. The D&H obtained 20 EMD's at the startup of Conrail and some former Reading units are on this northbound train. May 13, 1984.
11. The 7418, former Reading 3418, sure needs a bath. 12. Going away shot shows the empty tracks along the shop building. It was "FS" which stood for Fifth Street.
