Southern Pacific GP40P-2 3197, in bicentennial paint, leads SDP45 3202 in freight service at College Park in San Jose, CA on Sunday, May 27, 1979. WAF said, "RVWJY to WJct. Worked the day before on the RVSJA out of Roseville to San Jose via Altamont".
According to good sources, including Strapac's fantastic SP Compendium series, SP 3197 was built in November 1974 by EMD as a model EMD GP40P-2, builders number 74619-01, SP 3197, SP Class EP430-1. 3197 repainted into SP Style Bicentennial paint June 1975. In Nov. 1986 it was renumbered to SP 7600 SP Class EF430-5.
This locomotive was assigned the numbers UP 5200 and/or 1300 and was retired still in SP paint and number in July 2002 and sold, becoming Indiana Harbor Belt 4010.

I remember SP 3197 pulling a Special from San Mateo in 1981 for the NMRA Convention. Thanks for the great nostalgia!
