Caption this babe’s running gear!
Author: santafe199

So there I was, just me n’ my Kodachrome 25-loaded Pentax Spotmatic, flirting with an old Go-Mo* Alco. Shadows be damned, I was all set to shoot me a super-duper roster shot! And Mrs G walks into the scene. Should I have waited to take the shot (heh heh heh)? Shoot me a scene caption and let me know what ya think>>v

1. Just 5½ months into 35mm slide photography I have yet to learn doodley-squawk about taking properly lit roster shots. But hey... this was one of the first Alcos I ever laid eyes on up close & personal like this. Mercy sakes, just check out that unit’s running gear... ;^)
Original Kodachrome 25 slide taken May 12, 1977 in Jackson, TN.

Thanks for looking... umm.... back??

I don't know, seems to me the running gear is properly exposed, light wise that is. Dark side be damned.

Back in those shadows?  Hard to tell, eh?
That sun-baked subject is more visible.

He:  "Gee, hon, aren't these old Alcos swell?"

She:  "I shaved my legs for this?"

Honey, this is going to be a fun day at the rail yard - and she stayed with you-!

She was pretty OK with me being a full-time shooter! After hiring on with Santa Fe she probably figured it kept me outta the watering hole(s) with all the other rails. In fact she accompanied me down into the Flint Hills a couple of times, handling K-25 normal lens shots while I did the K-64 telephoto work...

Too bad you didn't catch her in front of one of those high-hood, 244-powered, military Alcos.  It would have been MRS-G and MRS-1.

Thanks for all the replies, guys. I had some fun with this one!! I had completely forgotten about catching Cheryl in this shot. And I suspect I snuck this shot of her on purpose, but I really don't remember 100%. She was a class act, and when we divorced in late '81/early '82 we parted absolute friends. I didn't even retain a lawyer. Didn't need to. We had 9 good years together, which might as well be a life time when you're 17-to-26 years old. We grew up on Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, The James Gang, Steely Dan, even some Neil Diamond. We were deeply into Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. We both came of age on that album alone. But the 1980 film Urban Cowboy came along and she went "Drugstore Cowgirl" on me, BIG TIME! Cowgirl boots, cowgirl hat, name "on the back of her belt" redneck to the max! I sorta felt abandoned and she couldn't understand why I didn't jump into the redneck-craze thing with her. We just drifted too far apart before either one of us realized it. She went off to the ride the Orange Blossom Special while I never left the Dark Side...

To this day she remains one of the finest women I've ever known...

Ah memories.  When I was seventeen, I was still trying to figure out which shoe was the left one!  And seeing how music is an occasional theme in your postings, may I nominate Fairport Convention,  "Who knows where the time goes", as a potential unofficial theme song for the Nostalgia & History board.  Or not.

I have to confess to knowing next-to-nothing about the band. So it was an interesting write up I found in Wikipedia! They've certainly been around quite a while. I also listened to your song. Nice acoustic work. With its poignant, and almost sad lyrics I picture a very senior person on the final glide path of life, resigned to that last runway...
