Union Pacific U30C's at ICG Paducah Shops

In for wreck repairs at ICG's Paducah Shop, May 1977. Anybody recall the story behind these units?

In the 1st. pic. why is there a  7 in front of the 2830 number on the nose but NOT on the side? upkpfan

Not a 7 but the way the metal is dented in makes it look that way
