Surprise Santa Fe consist at Casa Loma 1997

This was an eastbound UP train with MK lease power and it was real cool to see Santa Fe units running over Donner Pass. There's a former MoPac sd40-2 tagging along too.

Thanks for looking.

ATSF power was pretty rare up here before BNSF trackage rights- good catch!

Two BNSF trackage rights trains passed each other at about Gold Run today. The WB had a patched red/silver warbonnet trailing. Nice to see.

The Santa Fe-painted units weren't MK leasers - they were still full-fledged BNSF locomotives.  In fact, SD40-2 5060 is still on the roster as BNSF 1600.  The MKM sublettering on SD40-2 5060 and SD45-2 5835 just meant they were covered by an MK maintenance agreement (by then MPI).  The only units with MKM sublettering that were actually owned by MK and leased back to Santa Fe/BNSF were F45's and SD45's.
