Bruce was at one of his favorite places to shoot MILW electrics ... Avery Idaho. The date was Oct. 2, 1971 when he took this view of E45B, C and A.

There are no white flags in the marker holders on the cab edges so this is not the lead unit of an extra train. That would mean this is a mid train helper set on an eastbound train probably a 264 or Drag Freight East.

Are there any known color shots of these units when they were painted black ?

I have seen color photos of the pelicans in black. Some had red roofs like MILW steam locomotives did. These roofs tended to weather to a brownish boxcar brown.

I don't know is the red locomotive roofs started on the Rocky Mountain Division or the Coast Division.

There are lots of colorized B&W's.

The three "surviving" units on display are E57B (in orange, black, and maroon with gold lettering) and 10200A&B (in black with white letteing).
