Nostalgia & History > Turkey Brand Cement Hauled by Rail from Stroh, IndianaDate: 11/26/21 08:39 Turkey Brand Cement Hauled by Rail from Stroh, Indiana Author: wabash2800 Covered in a chapter in my Railroading on the Wabash Fourth District book, the Wabash hauled cement from a plant at the end of its Stroh Branch. The Wabash Portland Cement Company branded it as "Turkey Brand" cement made from Marl from Big Turkey Lake at Stroh. The branch is long gone, with the rail pulled up in 1945. It's likely a diesel never traversed the branch, as even the few diesel switchers the Wabash had at the time were heavier than the B-6 steam 0-6-0s that serviced the branch. Though there was some 80 lb. rail on the branch, much of it was 63 lb.
